A Little Slice of Warmth
It’s that time of the year, when we share a slice of our love with our precious beings. The day we wear our pink and red wardrobe and transform into a princess. We take the time to enjoy quality time at dinner, or a movie with our loved ones and give thanks to have them be part of our life. This day is of course Valentine’s day!
To me valentine’s day, is one that should be cherished with the people you love the most and are thankful to be around. Valentine doesn’t always have to be spent with a boyfriend or girlfriend, but can range from your husband, wife, mother, father, siblings, friends, or family in general. What makes valentine so great, is the people that lighten your day with excitement, tranquility, and joy the moment you spend time with them. Thus, for me these people are my family!
Typically on this lovely day, my father holds a tradition to have our dinning room glimmering with red heart shaped balloons, a huge bouquet of red flowers for my mother, three heart shaped boxes of chocolate for my brother, sister, and I, and little notes in each gift. Although these are the prototypical gifts that we all give one another, the one thing that changes every year is the sweet messages that my parents give to each one of us. To me this is what makes valentine so special; the fact that people take the time to write a sweet message, whether it be short or long, it’s the intentions that make this day wonderful.
Once we all come home form school and work, my family and I hold a tradition to go our to eat together. Although every year it gets even harder to have this happen because we are all growing up and want to spend it with our friends or in my brother’s case, his girlfriend, we make sure that before anything, we all enjoy each others company at dinner. Additionally, because valentine usually falls on a week day, we are all very busy with work, school. sports, and scheduling, but we all manage to room at the end of the day to go our to eat. We all get nicely dressed and pull our our best clothes for this special night. Then we go to our favorite restaurant, located in the Plaza Square at Orange. It’s called Felix Continental Cafe, where they sell the best authentic cuban food. The restaurant itself is very small and cozy; with dimmed lights and beautiful candles dressed on every table cloth. As soon as you walk into the room, you feel warm and ready to devour the yummy food.
What my family and I love the most about this restaurant is it’s location and the decorative food. Their portions are big enough to serve two people and each plate includes a choice of dessert. My favorite dish is the Chicken Embajdor, which is a golden, boneless breast of chicken with a creamy provencal sauce, melted mozzarella cheese, and a rich side of avocado. EAch plate comes with soup or salad, fluffy spincah rice with a creamy spinach sauce, maduros, which are lightly fried bananas or platanos, and a side of dessert.
I would advice you guys to not have your bellies empty a day ahead, in order to gobble up all the dish ehheeh. (:
The moment you bite into the chicken your mouth is sizzled with a creamy, cheesy sauce that melts in your mouth instantly. Once you realize it, your already on your fourth bite and your half way with finishing the dish. However, when you dip the provencal chicken with the spinach cream you get a fresh taste that makes you want to ask for more. Yum yum yum !
Now on to the dessert. I chose the, Tres Leches cake, which is a slice of fluffy moist bread drizzled with a light cream milk and toped with homemade whip cream, that gives the whole dessert a soft sweet texture. It is absolutely delicious and fills your belly with a sweet sensation.
After we eat dinner we all cuddle around each other and walk around the plaza. We take pictures and simply cherish time as a family. This to me is what makes this day precious because it reminds me how much I enjoy being with my family. It teaches me how thankful I should be to have them, despite the times we fight and ignore one another. Thus, on this day, don’t feel the need to go all out and take your special person out to a super fancy place, but simply take them out to eat and share time with them; let them know how much you love and appreciate them in your life. Remind them of all the memories you have shared with them and those that you wish to continue making because these moments are the ones that you will remember the most when you look back at this day.
I would love to hear how each one spend time on this special day ! Please leave a comment below! (:
